2020 Jeff Wenzell Memorial Scholarship Recipient
The Pipe Liners Club of Tulsa Jeff Wenzell Memorial Scholarship
This separate award is an additional special scholarship that is given to the top scoring scholarship recipient annually.
Jeff Wenzell was a 40+ year industry veteran, working for a few different companies before settling in with the Explorer Pipeline family, where he spent the next 23 years. Jeff retired from Explorer in 2010 as Director of Engineering, and passed away shortly after. In 2011, Jeff was posthumously named Pipe Liner of the Year by the Pipe Liners Club of Tulsa. Explorer Pipeline honored Jeff by donating $25,000.00 to the Club in order to fund the Jeff Wenzell Memorial Scholarship. The top scoring eligible applicant for the year is awarded an additional $2,500.00 in scholarship monies.
The club would like to thank Explorer Pipeline, Rod Sands, and Mrs. JoAnn Wenzell for allowing us to carry on Jeff's legacy through this special scholarship fund.
Please join us in congratulating the 2020 Jeff Wenzell Memorial Scholarship winner, Hope Bailey.
Hope Bailey is a 5th year student at Oklahoma State University in her last year of the five-year accredited Bachelor of Architecture program. Since freshman year at OSU, she has been active in both her college and the community as an executive member of the American Institute of Architecture Students, the Architecture Leadership Council, and the architecture honors society, Tau Sigma Delta, as well as a standing member of the Honors College at OSU. Her most notable extra-curricular activity at OSU has been founding and leading OSU's Freedom By Design chapter, which provides community service opportunities to Architecture students by encouraging design-builds that benefit the community. Through Freedom by Design, Hope has organized and managed projects for architecture students such as the CANstruction food drive, PAWsh Palaces fundraiser, and a fully functioning community garden design build for the food service non-profit, Our Daily Bread in Stillwater. In addition to the hundreds of hours completed in community service through Freedom by Design, she has also been active in OSU's bi-yearly Into the Streets program, in which students do community service through yard work and other home projects for those in need of an extra hand.
Prioritizing environmentally conscious design in her career, she is also pursuing a Minor of Sustainable Design at OSU to help her advocate for green architecture in her field. She's most excited to try to make a positive difference in reducing the carbon impact of the architectural profession as she pursues her architectural license in the coming years.
She'd like to give a special thank you to those on the Jeff Wenzell Memorial Scholarship Committee and Pipe Liners Club of Tulsa Scholarship Committee for generously providing these scholarships that are helping her pursue her goals and dreams in architectural design at OSU and beyond!
