New crude oil pipelines have brought much-needed takeaway capacity to the Gulf Coast, but the midstream construction boom is far from over. The challenge now is to prevent relocating the West Texas bottlenecks to coast by building an infrastructure capable of handling bigger Permian volumes. Crude oil export terminals are needed to handle a surge in supertanker traffic from Corpus Christi to Brownsville. Natural gas pipelines are needed to reduce flaring and move associated gas to markets. Liquefaction and LNG export facilities must be expanded to handle the growing demand.
